After series of speculations that the Ellen DeGeneres show will be coming to an end later in 2020, the comedian/hostess has debunked such rumors stating that the show will continue for three more years (2020-2022).
Ellen made the announcement to her audience on a taped show yesterday, which airs today. She disclosed, “I’m excited to announce that I’ll be doing my show for three more years. Mostly because I love doing it so much every day, but also because that takes me to the end of my car lease.”
The initial renewal of the show with Warner Bros. Television was to run through 2019-2020, but considering the unfinished production on the part of Ellen as she revealed to THR and the die-hard audience the show has attracted since its 16 years of running, it just doesn’t tally for the showrunners to bring it to a sudden close.
Peter Roth, president and CCO of Warner Bros. Television Group, chimed about Ellen in a released statement, “Ellen is quite simply a force of nature. Her energy, intelligence, kindness and creativity know no bounds. Whether it’s her instant connection to her guests on her flagship talk show, her warm and funny hosting on Game of Games, or the infectious enthusiasm she shares in producing everything from Little Big Shots to the animated antics of Green Eggs and Ham, it’s an honor to work alongside her. We’re thrilled to continue this fun and friendly journey with her.”
Despite the show’s extension, Ellen has still weighed in on her options after everything ‘Ellen Show’ comes to an end. She told The Hollywood Reporter in a preceded interview, “I think once I’m done with the talk show, I’m not somebody that needs to be onstage and in front of the camera all the time. I’m happy to step back when I’m done. I’ll be happy to just be doing my brand and doing production. So once I’m done with the talk show, I think then you’ll see me do stand-up once in a while and that’s it.”
For the past 16 years on television, the show has attracted a large number of celebrity guests ranging from fashion, movies, music all through to politics. Provoking and trending topics have been discussed in a close one-to-one interview with stars captured around the evolving stories.
