EL to face lawsuit charges for copyright infringement

Award-winning rapper EL is being faced with a lawsuit threat from chorale group, Amazing Chorale.

According to the group’s CEO Nicholas Essah, EL’s track ‘Efa Wo Ho Ben’ was sampled from their performance of Asare Bediako’s ‘W’ano Pe Asem’, which they performed in 2015 on the TV3 gospel show celebrations.

Speaking to Citi News Kwame Dadzie on Celebrity Radar, Nicholas disclosed, “The voice we recorded is the same thing he used, doctored it and just added some few words. We have Asare Bediako, he is bitterly hurt. We have also spoken to our lawyers and in collaboration with Asare Bediako we shall take him on.”

Asare Bediako, composer of the song during a phone interview with Kwame also expressed how disappointed he is about the alleged copyright infringement left unattended. “Some people sent the song to me and I wondered how such a thing could happen in Ghana just like that. This is an old song, everybody knows this is my song and somebody picks it up and nobody is saying anything about it,” he said.

Following the legal threats coming in, Chairman of the Ghana Music Rights Association (GHAMRO), Rex Omar has commented on the situation disclosing that if Amazing Chorale did not finance the recording of the song, then they cease to own any rights to the song.

EL is yet to make an official statement about the developing case.
