Just like Sarkodie in Ghana, Ed Sheeran has been crowned artiste of the decade in the UK. The honor was done him by the Official Charts Company.
Ed Sheeran’s decade achievement is transparent in his released singles and albums, from which 12 of them have placed No.1 on top of charts. He also holds as the only UK artiste to have stayed at No.1 for 79 weeks put together.
“At the start of the decade, he was a little known, albeit highly-rated, young 18-year-old lad from Suffolk, but his catalog of achievements since then is genuinely remarkable. Today, he is firmly established among the highest level of global music superstars,” Martin Talbot, chief executive of Official Charts.
In a released chart of top ten singles of the decade, three of Ed Sheeran’s songs namely; ‘Shape of You’, ‘Thinking Out Loud’ and ‘Perfect’ forms part of the top 5 songs at No.1, No.3 and No.5 respectively. Official Charts reports that, Sheeran has an overall 38 weeks at No.1 in the singles chart and sold over 53.8 million tracks. His songs have also been streamed 4.6 billion times in the UK alone. He also stays at No.3 in the album chart with ‘X’ and ‘Divide’ at No.4.
