Ivorian music sensation DJ Arafat, has been confirmed dead in Abidjan, according to media publications in the country. The unfortunate incident happened in the early hours of Monday, August 12.
The cause of death per pictures circulating on social media and online blogs indicate that the singer’s riding motorbike collided with a car, which led to his sudden demise. Hours after declaring him dead, 1,000 fans gathered in front of the hospital, in Abidjan’s Cocody suburb weeping and chanting the words “Arafat cannot die.”
News about his death has merited a heavy blow in the francophone country and other parts of the African continent, most especially Nigeria. Several acts from the West African side including two-time BET Award winner Davido have paid tribute to the late artist in a shared video, which has the two performing together on stage. He captioned, “Last time we performed together at My concert in Abidjan!! Woke up this morning still can’t believe you gone! I love you brother. I will be there for your family as long as I’m here! Like they say, The best flowers are picked first! Enjoy heaven YOROBO REST IN PERFECT PEACE.”
The 33-year old issued 11 albums and expanded his fame to Europe and the United States. He was named Best Artist of the year twice at the Ivorian ‘Coupe-decale’ awards in 2016 and 2017. He amassed an Instagram fanbase of 17 million, made up of different personalities across the globe.
