Former BET Network chairman and CEO Debra L. Lee, has been appointed as member of AT&T’s board of directors. Her inclusion into the board expands its membership to a figure of 13 and will also double as the fourth woman to join the board.
“Debra’s outstanding leadership, deep expertise and strong track record in the entertainment and media industry will be terrific additions to our board of directors,” AT&T chairman and CEO Randall Stephenson said in a statement. “Her unique perspective as a media industry leader and operations executive and her lifetime commitment to community service give her valuable insights, I look forward having on our board.”
Debra’s achievements can be counted from her served leadership roles at BET network, from COO, general counsel to CEO. Under her flagship as chairman, the network launched hit series such as ‘Being Mary Jane’, ‘The New Edition Story’ and ‘Black Girls Rock!’ She handed over her CEO position last year, 2018.
Aside her BET history, Lee also functions as board member of Twitter, but will exit the social media service in August this year, after three-year stay. She is the founder of ‘Leading Women Defined’ launched in 2009, which puts together an annual gathering of prominent African-American women.
In 2011, she was appointed to the White House Management Advisory Board by President Barack Obama during his tenure of office and has also made it on Billboard’s Power 100 and The Hollywood Reporter’s Most Powerful women in Entertainment list in previous years.
