Currently playing Phyllis Schlafly on the FX miniseries ‘Mrs. America’, Academy Award winning actress Cate Blanchett is in early talks to star in Lionsgate’s upcoming film ‘Borderlands’, based on the Gearbox Software created first-person shooter video game by the same name.
Blanchett will play Lilith, one of the main protagonists in the franchise, and one of the playable characters in the first ‘Borderlands’ game. In the game, she is one of only six women in the galaxy that belong to the powerful ‘siren’ class, wielding incredible, superhuman powers.
Strauss Zelnick chairman and CEO of Take-Two Interactive, the company that publishes the game will serve as executive producer to the developing film alongside Randy Pitchford, founder of Gearbox Software.
Eli Roth is taking the director’s bench, while Avi and Ari Arad produce under the Arad Production company. Erik Feig is also producing through his Picturestart film company in West Hollywood. Craig Mazin will pen down the script for the screenplay.
Blanchett, who doubles as a two-time Oscar winning actress, three Golden Globes award recipient with three British film awards plus more was reportedly on the set of Guillermo del Toro’s thriller ‘Nightmare Alley’ alongside Bradley Cooper before productions shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Repped by CAA and RGM Artists, Blanchett will head the Venice Film Festival as Jury President come September 2 – 12, 2020.
