The biggest film festival in the world, Cannes has just been enveloped by the growing coronavirus concerns. It has officially been postponed to a later date yet-to-be disclosed by organizers.
The festival’s Twitter handle shared the news yesterday, “Due to the health crisis and the development of the French and international situation, the Festival de Cannes will no longer be able to take place on the dates planned, from May 12 to 23.”
Unlike some other major activities canceled indefinitely, organizers are holding unto the possibility of hosting the festival this year after the virus is contained.
According to organizers, they are in consultation with the French Government and Cannes’ City Hall as well as with the Festival’s Board Members, Film industry professionals and all partners of the event.
France, which is home of the festival has so far recorded 9,000 cases with more than 240 deaths confirmed.
This year’s festival will be chaired by Oscar winner Spike Lee.
