Celebrated Ghanaian boxer, Bukom Banku has been issued an indefinite ban from professional boxing by the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA), until further notice.
The cause of revocation set in as a result of Bukom’s failure to meet up to the terms and conditions of a signed contract between him and Box Office Promotions. It can be recalled that back in 2017, the heavy-weight boxer was defeated for the first time in his career to colleague Bastie Samir at a staged boxing match on October 21, 2017.
After the defeat, Bukom went on to sign a rematch contract between him and opponent Bastie, and took home a total amount of 17,000 cedis to be used as training and purse allowance, but failed to honor the contract signed with Box Office Promotions (organizers of the boxing match). Till date when the matter was reported to the GBA, Bukom had not refunded the cash as demanded leading to his indefinite ban.
Aside the revocation status of Bukom’s boxing license, he has also been ordered to refund the money, while GBA has given full authorization to Box Office Promotions to seek relief from the court in the event that Bukom fails to refund the part payment he received from them.
Ghana Web reports that, Box Office Promotion is currently engaged in negotiations with Banku’s managers for a possible settlement plan.
