Lovers of the 1997 American Supernatural drama series, Buffy the Vampire Slayer are in for some good news as the series is under a reboot.
Show runner Monica Owusu-Breen has signed on to oversee the project. Director Joss Whedon, who created the original series will return to executive produce. A peak of how the reboot is going to be, a spokesperson at Fox 21 Television studios disclosed, “Like our world, it will be a richly diverse, and like the original, some aspects of the series could be seen as metaphors for issues facing us all today”.
The rebooted series will see a black actress take over the title role, which was played in the series by Sarah Michelle Geller. However, no black actress names has popped up to take up the lead role. Gail Berman, Joe Earley, Fran Kazui and Kaz Kazui will also executive produce. No network is attached to the series, but it will no doubt stir up a bidding war among various networks and streaming services when it is taken to market.
The original Buffy the Vampire Slayer series was based on the 1992 film of the same name, which Whedon wrote and Starred Kristy Swanson as Buffy. The show ran for seven seasons ( 1997-2003) and 145 episodes and its frequently cited as one of the best shows ever made. For now, it is unknown if any of the original cast will star in the reboot.
