From South Africa, Zozibini Tunzi has emerged winner of the coveted Miss Universe pageant. Aged 26, Tunzi becomes the first black woman from her country to win Miss Universe and the third to win for her country after Margaret Gardiner won in 1978 and Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters in 2017. The night, hosted by long-running show host Steve Harvey, ended with Miss Puerto Rico, taking the first runner up spot and Miss Mexico taking the second runner-up title. Described by the crowd and media headlines to have given the most thoughtful answer to her question. Tunzi replied Harvey when asked about the thing girls need to know about leadership, "It's something that has been lacking in young girls and women for a very long time not because we don't want to but because of what society has labelled women to be. I think we are the most powerful beings in the world." Before winning Miss Universe last might, Tunzi, who doubles as an activist had been running an online campaign urging South African men to write what she described as love letters to the country's women. She further incorporated the letters in her national costume outfit that also featured the South African flag colors. The 2019 Miss Universe pageant took place at the Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, Georgia. Congratulations to her!
