With the autumn/winter 2019 shows in the pipeline, the capital of fashion 'Paris' has launched a plan outlining its steps on becoming the sustainable capital of fashion by 2024. Within the space of five years to come, Paris will implement 'Paris Good Fashion', an initiative calling on influential industry players to push eco-conscious practices forward.
Launching the project at the Institut Francais de la Mode were Antoinette Guhl, Deputy Mayor of Paris, Frederic Hocquard, an elected official within the Paris Council and Isabelle Lefort, a former fashion journalist, who disclosed of the initiative, saying, "Paris Good fashion is an open community regrouping fashion professionals, brands, entrepreneurs, designers and experts who will be working together to establish a roadmap of the steps that can be taken to make Paris the sustainable capital of fashion."
Organizations such as Federation de la Haute Couture et de la Mode, the Ellen MacArthur Foundation and LVMH, have chipped in their support for the initiative. Speaking about the task that lies ahead of all these groups, Guhl chimed, "It's our task to invent a new future for fashion. Our role is to encourage creation while fighting against climate change, to continue production in France while protecting natural resources and to develop our industry while looking out for our artisans."
According to WWD, the sustainable roadmap will be unveiled at an event come June 2019, with the focus on how to create a circular economy, improving sourcing and traceability, and making distribution, energy and communication, with Paris Fashion Week inclusive.
Already, the capital of fashion 'Paris' is stationed with some of the world's most recognized and popular fashion brands, in the likes of Chanel, Christian Dior, Hermes, Balmain and more. Clearly, with the competitive nature of fashion spreading from different countries in this century, it is only wise for the highly acclaimed home of fashion to think ahead in securing its number spot.
