Things are not going down well with Katy Perry's 'Dark Horse' song. A nine-member jury in Los Angeles has ruled that Katy copied parts of her song from 'Joyful Noise' produced by Christian rap artist Flame in 2008.
In the one-week process of court hearing, Flame argued that 'Dark Horse' infringed on his copyright over 'Joyful Noise' by using an underlying beat from his song without permission. He further argued that his song was popular in the Christian community and was widely available on streaming platforms, therefore Perry's producers could have heard it before commencing work on her song.
Perry, who was not in court for the final verdict had already pleaded in earlier discussions that she and her producer Dr. Luke had not heard of the song before the release of 'Dark Horse'.
Penalties for the copyright infringement will be announced soon with the amounts to be paid by Perry and her guilty charged members made of 'Dark Horse' co-writer Dr. Luke and Sarah Hudson, producers Max Martin and Henry Walter as well as rapper Juicy J who was featured on the track.
