After recording low ratings for the annual ABC broadcast of Oscars, the Academy of Motion Pictures and Sciences has made new changes with its telecast and categories. In a released report by the Academy's president, John Bailey and Dawn Hudson, addressed to Academy members embeds three changes that its Board of Governors made to help improve the Oscars telecast. In past years, the Oscars  telecast has been described as long, therefore making it boring to some extent by viewers worldwide. Addressing such issues, the board has committed to produce a three-hour show, taking effect with the 91st Oscars next year. Per the statement released, the three hours will be achieved by presenting select categories live in the Dolby Theater during commercial breaks. Those categories will be filmed and its winning moments will then be aired later in the broadcast. The Academy is also adding up a new category to the already existing 24 categories, ' Outstanding achievement in popular film' however, details of its basis for a film to get nominated in such category are yet to be given, but will make its debut at the 91st show. The date for the 92nd show, which was initially scheduled for February 23, 2020 has now been moved to Sunday, February 9, 2020. This change in date will not affect awards eligibility dates or the voting process.
