The 51st NAACP Image Awards was held last Saturday, February 22 live from Pasadena on BET. Hosted by multiple NAACP winner Anthony Anderson, Rihanna received the President's Award, while Lizzo took home the much-coveted title of the night, Entertainer of the Year.
For the outstanding motion picture record, Michael B. Jordan's produced film 'Just Mercy' won and also scored Jordan and Jamie Foxx winning nods in the best actor and best supporting actor categories respectively. Lupita Nyong'o was feted with the outstanding actress in a motion picture statute for her performance in Jordan Peele's horror picture 'Us', while Marsai Martin won for outstanding supporting actress for 'Little'.
An absent Beyoncé took home multiple NAACPs in the categories; outstanding variety show for 'Homecoming', outstanding album and female artist of the year. Grammy winning artist Lil Nas X was named breakthrough artist and Bruno Mars named Outstanding male artist.
On the television front, host of the ceremony Anderson together with his TV wife Tracee Ellis Ross both won the outstanding actor and actress in a comedy series respectively for 'Black-ish' with the television show winning best comedy series. 'Greenleaf' tapped the outstanding drama series honors.
A special tribute was paid to late NBA player Kobe Bryant in the Memoriam segment, while Rihanna called for unity in her President's Award acceptance speech, with the words, 'We can fix this world together'.
