After Andra Day's memorable turn in 'The United States Vs. Billie Holiday', the Hollywood Foreign Press Association has anointed her career with a Golden Globe 'best actress in a drama movie' win. Day's shocking, but well-deserved win makes her the second black woman in Globe history to win the coveted category. Whoopi Goldberg was the first to be feted with such recognition in 1985 for her role in 'The Color Purple'.

Other notable winners of the night include Chloe Zhao, who recorded a historic win in the best director category. Zhao becomes the first Asian woman and second woman to win the Globe trophy after Barbara Streisand's victory in 1983 for 'Yenti'. Aside her individual win with 'Nomadland', the film also picked up the highest mention of the night, best motion picture drama.

First time winners include Daniel Kaluuya, Anya Taylor-Joy, Emma Corrin and John Boyega for their roles in 'Judas and the Black Messiah', 'The Queen's Gambit', 'The Crown', and 'Small Axe' respectively.

'The Queen's Gambit' won best limited series made for television, while 'The Crown' won best drama series. Jane Fonda was feted with the Cecil B. DeMille honorary award and in a moving acceptance speech encouraged Hollywood to be leaders in diversity.

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler hosted the ceremony in a bicoastal telecast on NBC.
