The second and final night of the 2021 BAFTA film awards was held last night at the Royal Albert Hall, London with only award presenters hosted physically, while nominees joined via Zoom.
The American drama film, 'Nomadland' which stars Frances McDormand as a modern-day nomad picked up the highest honours of the night including best film, best director (Chloe Zhao) and best actress for McDormand. It also won best cinematography for Joshua James Richards. Zhao becomes the first woman of color as well as the second woman in BAFTA history to win best director.
Hitting a high note on the award season circuit this year, Anthony Hopkins, who played a disoriented father suffering from dementia in 'The Father' won best actor over the most awarded contender this year, Chadwick Boseman.
On the supporting side, 'Judas and the Black Messiah' star Daniel Kaluuya was awarded best supporting actor, while South Korean actress Youn Yuh-jung claimed best supporting actress with 'Minari'.
In the writing folder, Emerald Fennell's revenge thriller 'Promising Young Woman' took home best original screenplay as well as outstanding British film. 'The Father' also won adapted screenplay for Christopher Hampton and Florian Zeller.
Other notable films, which picked up prizes include 'Soul' (Animated Film and Original Score), 'Sound of Metal' (Best Sound), Another Round 'Film Not In The English Language), 'My Octopus Teacher' (Best Documentary).
Bukky Bakray also received the EE Rising Star award. Priyanka Chopra, Cynthia Erivo, Phoebe Dynevor, Tom Hiddleston, Richard E Grant were among the evening's presenters.
