Grammy winner, Aretha Franklin is reported to be battling with cancer.
The news about her ailment was disclosed on Monday in the local 4 news Chanel in Detroit. Evrod Cassimy, the anchor for the outlet who originally broke the news of her illness, said the singer is currently resting and surrounded by family and friends. The reporter asked for prayers on behalf of the singer and her relatives.
The 76-year old singer has long been battling with health issues since she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2010, but has continued to perform for crowds over the years. Last February, the singer told Detroit TV station local 4, that she will retire from the game this year. “This will be my last year, I will be recording, but this will be my last year in concert. This is it,” she said.
Aretha was last seen in a performance at Elton John’s AIDS Foundation Gala last year November, where she sang some of her most popular songs. The star rose to fame in 1966, after singing with Atlantic Records and releasing classic songs like “You Make Me Feel Like a Woman,” “Respect” and “Say a Little Prayer”.
