Anna, who is arguably the only lady in the fashion world whose review about the world’s most famous personalities laud applause and acceptance from the victims, in a smart Anna way dodged a question about the fashion style of US First Lady Melania Trump.
In an interview with the Economic podcast, interviewer Anne McElvoy, noted to the Vogue’s editor-in-chief that she believes Melania “very consciously” opted to wear outfits from British designers during a state visit to the U.K. last month. She then specified the questions she wants to Wintour by asking for her thoughts on Melania’s recent fashion choices. In response to the host, Wintour exchanged the subject name in the question from Melania to the former first lady Michelle Obama.
“Well, I think first lady Michelle Obama really was so incredible in every decision she made about fashion. She supported young American designers. She supported designers. She supported designers, indeed, from all over the world. She was the best ambassador that this country could possibly have in many ways, obviously way beyond fashion, ” Anna said.
Pressing on with the conversation in search of the right answer, McElvoy asked, “But she’s not the first lady now. So, what about the one you’ve got now?” Anna answered, “To me, Obama is the example that I admire.”
Ever since Melania became first lady, concerns have been raised as to why she has not been given the Vogue cover girl spotlight as it happened for the former first lady’s Michelle and Hilary Clinton during the tenure of office. Earlier this year, the first lady’s rep released a statement clapping back at media rumors that she has been snubbed by the magazine. The statement read, “Her role as first lady of the United States and all that she does is much more important than some superficial photo shoot and cover. This just further demonstrates how biased the fashion magazine industry is, and shows how insecure and small-minded Anna Wintour really is.”
Could this be an existing feud or developing one? We can only wait to find out!
