Oscar winners Lady Gaga and Adele are among the 842 members selected by the Academy for its 2019 membership class.
Adele got shortlisted for her musical performance with the Oscar winning movie ‘Skyfall’, whiles Gaga secured the space from her ‘Shallow’ performance for ‘A Star is Born’. Other notable names recruited in the Academy from movie branch include; ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ Gemma Chan, ‘US’ star actress Elizabeth Moss, Claire Foy of ‘First Man’ fame, ‘Spider Man: Homecoming’ frontman Tom Holland, ‘Black Panther’ cast members Letitia Wright, Sterling K. Brown and Winston Duke.
The list also features personalities making up the filmmaking set by performing roles as producers, casting directors, executive producers, cinematographers, costume designers, film editors, makeup artists and hairstylists, documentary producers, marketers, production designers, writers, sound editors, visual effects experts, makers of short films and feature animations, plus a total of 49 members-at-large and 11 associates.
Last year, as part of the Academy’s effort to have a more diverse and inclusive membership list, 928 individuals were recruited to fill the gab making it the year with the most called Academy members. The Academy reported early this year that the organization is running with 32 percent of females and 16 percent of people of color, without any total number specifics. This year’s list however, is made up of 50 percent women and 29 percent people of color, which is quite a shoot up from the yearly recorded membership.
