Post-Oscar glory for ‘A Star is Born’ stirs us in the face at the No.1 spot of Billboard’s 200. The movie, which scored one honor, for best original song ‘Shallow’ at the Academy awards last Sunday, Feb.24, despite its eight nominations climbed up from No.3 with 128,000 equivalent album units earned in the week (up 152 percent) to the No.1 space.
‘A Star is Born’ 4 weeks non-consecutive stay at No.1 on Billboard 200 makes it the only live-action film soundtrack to have most weeks on the chart since Disney channel’s TV movie ‘High School Musical 2’ claimed four consecutive weeks atop in 2014. It also adds up that the ‘A Star is Born’ soundtrack has spent a total 21 weeks at the weekly top 10 chart listings since its release in October, where it nabbed No.1 in the first three weeks.
Oscar winning film ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’s’ soundtrack also takes the No.5 slot with 61,000 equivalent album units (up 10 percent), which is a huge step down after spending the last weeks at No.2. The Queen’s band opened the Oscar ceremony together with Albert Lambert as lead singer singing ‘We Will Rock You’ and We are the Champions’. Ariana Grande’s ‘Thank U, Next ‘ places No.2 on the chart with 116,000 units (down 23 percent) after basking the No.1 glory in its first two weeks of release.
‘Drip or Drown 2’ by rapper Gunna makes its debut in the top 5 space at No.3 with 90,000 equivalent album units (7,000 in album sales). At No.4 is Offset’s ‘Father of 4’ with 89,000 equivalent album units (with 7,000 in album sales).
Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper performed ‘Shallow’ on the Oscar stage before its big announcement as original song winner. In the lead up to the Oscars, fans were in high anticipation for a sultry performance by the duo, boosting its chances of attaining the Billboard 200 chart No.1 spot.
