A Japanese version of Suits underway in October

American legal drama series, Suits is set to have a Japanese version. The series will air on leading network, Fuji TV in October after the network signed a deal with NBC Universal International Formats.

The series will star popular actor, Yuji Oda as Gabriel Macht’s role of mentor Harvey and actor and musician, Yuto Nakajima in Patrick J. Adams’ role of Mike. The show will be produced by the network in collaboration with its subsidiary Kyodo Television.

Ana Langenberg, senior VP of formats and production at NBC Universal International Formats disclosed their excitement to have a Japanese version of the series in a released statement saying, “Suits remains as one of the most popular TV series in the U.S, so we are delighted to further extend the brand across Asia with Fuji TV centered on a set of dynamic and formidable characters, suits lend itself perfectly to international markets, with its genius storytelling and universal themes of power, love and rivalry.”

“I have been a true Suits fan since I saw the scene where Harvey meets Mike, and it made me dream one day creating a Japanese version,” added Hiroyuki Goto, drama producer at Fuji TV. “No words can describe how much I respect Aaron Korsh and the original producers, and appreciate the NBC Universal International Formats team for providing me with the opportunity to make my seven-year -long dream come true to produce the show in Japan”.

Masato Hijikata is set to direct and the script will be handled by Junya Ikegami. The deal was brokered by NBC Universal International Formats’ director of Asia format sales, Linfield Ng. The U.S show starred Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle in her days as an actress.
