Legendary figure, Cher is getting a film biopic.
The untitled project, which stems from Universal, will have Oscar winner Eric Roth penning the script detailing the life and decades-long career of Cher. Judy Craymer and Gary Goetzman are attached to produce alongside Cher. She previously teamed up with Roth on the 1987 thriller ‘Suspect’ and not long ago, worked with Craymer and Goetzman for the sequel of ‘Mama Mia! Here We Go Again’.
In Hollywood, the iconic starlet has evolved through the space of film, music, fashion and television. She has in possession an Oscar statue, a Grammy megaphone and an Emmy trophy, making her one award away from becoming an EGOT (a Tony Award).
She won the Academy Award in 1987 for her role as Loretta Castorini in ‘Moonstruck’. With five Grammy nominations under her belt, Cher picked up the Grammy prize in 2000 for best dance recording with her album ‘Believe’. She also won an Emmy in 2003 in the Outstanding, Variety, Music or Comedy Special Category for ‘Cher: The Farewell Tour’ which aired on NBC.
Regarding her journey to the Tony Awards podium someday, Cher made her Broadway debut in the 1976 play ‘Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean’. In December 2018, ‘The Cher Show’, centred around her life and music journey, was opened on Broadway after its premiere at the Oriental Theatre, Chicago earlier that year. Rick Elice was behind the project.
On the side of Music, the A-lister has on record multiple studio albums as well as a Las Vegas Residency, which she started in 2008 at The Colosseum, Caesars Palace.
Roth’s best works in film can be found in ‘The Forest Gump’, which won an Oscar in 1995 as well as 2018’s ‘A Star is Born’ starring Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper. He is currently in production with Martin Scorsese for ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’ and also co-wrote ‘Dune’, which is set to debut on October 1.
