Memorial to be held in honor of Karl Lagerfeld on June 20

Chanel and Fendi, together with the late Karl Lagerfeld’s eponymous fashion house are joining forces together to bid final farewell to Karl Lagerfeld, who served as creative director in all three fashion brands.

The memorial service will be staged at Grand Palais, a place in Paris which was neatly transformed for all Chanel fashion shows since 2005. ‘Karl For Ever’ memorial comes off on June 20, same time as Paris Men’s Fashion Week.

On the eve of the memorial will have video footages of the late designer and his collaborators on three different screens. Things that he admired in terms of music, dance and theater will be interpreted with a performance in memory of the iconic designer. Orchestrated by theater and opera director Robert Caresen, the service is strictly by invitation and will possibly house 2,500 guests for the service.

“It will be a very powerful moment, a collective celebration of his persona. The memorial will be about Karl only: who was, what he loved, what gave him his exceptional energy. I am glad we could join forces with Fendi and Karl Lagerfeld to create together an exceptional event that measures up to him, a tribute that truly celebrates the things he loved and that inspired him,” said Chanel’s president of fashion Bruno Pavlovsky.

Karl, who died on February 19, left a quote amongst his famous ‘Karl quotes’ saying, “A funeral? I’d rather die.” The designer also said in an interview with Suzy Menkes that he totally hates the idea of being remembered heavily. The wish of the designer has however been observed  and as such no funeral service has being held in his honor since he passed on.
