One of America’s favorite couples, George and Amal Clooney, have launched an app ‘TrialWatch’ aimed at collecting data that measures the termination of justice due to race, gender, sexual orientation and class around the world.
In partnership with Microsoft, TrivalWatch tows the line of their foundation established in 2016, which has the global goal in advancing justice in courtrooms everywhere. The new TrivalWatch will document cases in courtrooms that may be violating human rights by recording audio and taking photos of people and documents. The app is also programmed to conduct speech-to-text translation in all languages so as to aid experts across the world gain access to the information.
Aside the strong collaboration with Microsoft, world renowned legal institutions such as the Columbia Law School, the American Bar Association and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights have all chipped in the partnering spirit with TrivalWatch.
Giving instances that led to the creation of the app, George disclosed, “A large number of countries allow women and girls be prosecuted for abortion. In some countries, you can be imprisoned or killed for who you love.” The attorney herself, Amal, who has served as representative in court for several cases that were deemed as a lost one-including the one of Yazidi survivors (an ethnic group) of sexual violence and the fight for the freedom of investigative journalist Khadija Ismayilova, in 2016 stressed on the need in holding the current legal system accountable in its dealings. “Without the fair administration of justice, it is not possible to hold the powers that be to account. There can be no democracy, no freedom of speech, no safety for minorities,” Amal commented.
TrivalWatch, follows up in Amal’s latest achievement in her legal career, after her appointment as special envoy for the UK government, last month, which holds her responsible at the highlight of attacks and restrictions placed on journalists around the world.
