The Birthright Concert launches at National Theatre for The Year of Return

The annual Birthright Concert, a family-oriented concert celebrating the African cultural legacy through traditional and modern African drum, dance and theatre, will take place tonight, 1st March, at the National Theatre starting at 6:00 pm. The concert co-hosted by Ghanaian actress and producer, Ama K. Abebrese and founder of The Adinkra Group, Diallo Sumbry will feature live performances from intergenerational West African Drum and dance company, Farafina Kan: The Sound of Africa, American sociopolitical music duo, CrossRhodes comprising award-winning R&B artist Raheem DeVaughn and rapper Wes  Felton, Ghana International School Ensemble, Kwan Pa Music Band, and Ghanaian artist Dela Botri.

Attendees at the concert will be eligible to win a pair of tickets from South African Airways to any destination of their choice. The concert has been hosted in Washington, DC for the past 5 years by the Adinkra Group and this will be its first annual instalment in Ghana.

The Birthright Concert is the fourth event slated for the Back2Africa Festival and Tour, a social event with a mission to connect people of African descent and the African Diaspora with the culture and traditions of Africa. The festival launched on the 26th of February and will end on the 8th of March, 2019 with a line-up of events that focuses on arts, performances, education and service projects in Ghana’s most historic venues in Kumasi, Cape Coast and Accra.

The Back2Africa Festival and Tour is part of events scheduled for the “Year of Return”, a year-long calendar of activities in “celebration of the resilience of the African spirit” coordinated by Ghana Tourism Authority, under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture.  Back2Africa festival partners include the Ghana Tourism Authority, South African Airways, SunSeekers Tour, WaxPrint Media, African American Association of Ghana (AAAG), Ghana International School (GIS), and African Ancestry.
