In the 99-year history of the Super Bowl game show, it recorded for the first time yesterday, February 3, the performance of male cheerleaders for its opening.
The two young men, who go by the names, Napoleon Jinnies and Quinton Peron, performed along with their Rams female cheerleaders at the big game after making it through the auditions last year March, amidst 300 people (all women, except the two).
Following their recruit into the cheerleading squad, Jinnies told CBS News, “The world of entertainment is in a place of being open and if you can do the job, why not?” Peron also chimed, “I was like, if we’re going to be here we need to make a statement, not just stand in the shadows and get intimidated”.
The two, together with Jesse Hernandez of the New Orleans Saints, already made history at the beginning of the season when they became the first male cheerleaders in the NFL.
The Super Bowl, which happened at the Mercedes-Benz stadium in Atlanta witnessed performances from Maroon 5, Travis Scott and Big Boi, for its halftime show. Gladys Knight kicked off the games with a vocal performance of the National Anthem, followed by a performance from the sister duo Chloe x Halle, who performed their own rendition of the ‘America the Beautiful’.
