The annual Africa Magic Viewer’s Choice Awards was reinstated for the 7th season last Saturday, March 14 inside the Eko Convention Centre, Lagos. Monikered as the Oscars of Africa, the sequel version of the 1992 film ‘Living in Bondage’ swept home the highest number of wins (8) including best film West Africa and overall film Africa.
In the acting categories, first time nominee Timini Egbuson and Toyin Abraham won the best actor and best actress in a drama movie/film for their performance in ‘Elevator Baby’. Multiple AMVCA winner Funke Akindele Bello took to the podium once again as the best actress in a comedy movie/series with ‘Moms At War’, whiles stand-up comedian Chibunna Stanley won the best actor in a comedy ‘Smash’.
Going into the night as the only Ghanaian actress with a nomination, Gloria Osei Sarfo bagged the best supporting actress honors with Shirley Frimpong Manso’s ‘The Perfect Picture: 10 Years Later’, while Pascal Tokodi won for best supporting actor with ‘Disconnect’.
Despite losing the acting categories to other major contenders, Ramsey Noah Jnr. scored his first best director award with his debut directorial feature film, ‘Living In Bondage’. The best documentary category went to ‘Smash’ produced by Beverly Naya and the best short film went to Bola ‘Enigma’ Akanbi’s ‘Thorn’. As part of the former’s winning package was a price reward of 1 million Naira.
