Mostly the first in anything when it comes African movies drawing global attention, Kathryn Fasegha’s Nollywood movie ‘2 Weeks In Lagos’ has set another record for the giant industry by partnering with Landmark Cinemas, Canada for a cinema’s distribution deal.
According to Bella Naija, the closed deal will give way for ‘2 Weeks In Lagos’ to be distributed across four cities in Canada namely; Ottawa, Winnipeg, Calgary and Edmonton from August 28 to September 3, 2020.
The film, which is yet-to-be-released across Nigerian cinemas on March 27, captures the excitement and vibrancy of everyday life in Lagos and reflects the complexity of life in Lagos, a dynamic city where anything is possible in 2 Weeks. It centers around the love affair of Ejikeme and Lola, who have a collision when Ejikeme an investment banker comes home from the United States to invest in Nigerian businesses.
It is love at first sight for them and as they embark on a journey of discovering this new love, they have to contend with the political ambitions of Ejikeme’s mother who is planning a marriage between him and the only daughter of Otunba Ayodeji, a political juggernaut who is considering Ejikeme’s father as his running mate for the Nigerian Presidency. His mother’s actions create a rift between Ejikeme and Lola that puts their families on a deadly collision course.
Before the film’s initial release date on October 19, 2019, it received a worldwide premiere at the Cannes Film Festival on May 17 inside the Pavillon Afriques, which is dedicated to the Pan-African film industry at Cannes. It doubled as one of the two films that got screened at the festival last year alongside Senegal’s French director Matip Diop’s film ‘Atlantics’.
‘2 Weeks In Lagos’ stars some of the industry’s respected key-players, Joke Silva, Beverly Naya, Mawuli Gavor, Deyemi Okanlawon, Toyin Abraham, Shaffy Bello and Jide Kosoko.
