The 21st Costume Designers Guild Awards were handed out last night inside the Beverly Hilton Hotel, Los Angeles.
Lucky designers who took home award statuettes include; Ellen Mirojnick for her costume efforts in ‘Maleficent: Mistress of Evil’ (Sci-Fi/Fantasy Film), Jenny Eagan (Contemporary Film) for ‘Knives Out’, and Debra Hanson (Contemporary Television) for Schitt’s Creek among others.
At the end of the night, ‘Jojo Rabbit’ stood out as the only Oscar nominated film for costume design to win an award for excellence in period film, going out to Mayes C. Rubeo. Michael Kaplan was honored with the Career Achievement Award, while Christopher Lawrence got the Excellence in Short Design honor for his United Airlines Commercial.
Charlize Theron received the Spotlight Award, which honors an actor, whose talent and career personify an enduring commitment to excellence, including a special awareness of the role and importance of Costume Design. Her Bombshell co-star John Lithgow presented the prize.
Mindy Kaling was host of the event.
