The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are taking a step back as senior royals.
Posted on the Sussex official Instagram page and website, the royal couple made the announcement of stepping back to become financially independent, while still throwing support to the majesty, “We intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen.”
Per the announcement, the decision to step back comes in after months of reflection and internal discussions. It is unclear as to why the royal couple made such final decision, but reported media outlets have drawn conclusions based on the deteriorating relationship between the Royal family and the British media, with the couple always at the center of false news in the tabloid press.
Discussions are however underway between the couple and the royal family as stated in the released letter by Buckingham Palace, “Discussions with The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are at an early stage. We understand their desire to take different approach, but these are complicated issues that will take time to work through.”
Majority of their time and days will now be spent in the United Kingdom and North America, in fulfillment of their duties to the Queen, Commonwealth and their patronages. The Sussex announcement ended with a sign-off note assuring the public of future collaborations between the couple and the Queen, Prince of Wales, Duke of Cambridge and all relevant parties.
