Vodafone Ghana Music Awards ‘Artiste of the Decade’ winner Sarkodie, has been named brand ambassador of the Year of Return 2019.
Staged at the Creative Arts Forum on Wednesday, October 30 at the National Theatre, Sarkodie after the announcement as ambassador was again honored with a citation handed out to him by the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Barbara Obeng Gyasi, for his achievement and immense contribution to Ghana’s creative arts industry.
Renowned in the creative arts sector as a leader of his generation of artists, mentor to the new school and successor of the old generation of music legends, Sarkodie is counted as part of the handful of Ghanaian entertainers who have put Ghana on the map under several occasions. Back in 2012, he became the first Ghanaian act to score a BET nomination in the ‘Best International Act’ category, which resulted in a win for the rapper.
At the just ended BET HIP HOP Awards, Sarkodie once again recorded history by becoming the very first African act and Ghanaian musician to win the ‘Best International Flow’ award. In his winning speech, the ‘Saara’ hitmaker urged the audience present to take a trip back home in celebration of the Year of Return. He said, “This year is the Year of Return and I will urge each and every one of you here to take a trip back home. It’s going down in Ghana so if you are coming to Africa, choose Ghana.”
