3Media Networks, organizers of the annual 3Music Awards has disclosed that winners of the 2020 edition will be announced in a virtual concert to be held on April 24. The new turn of events comes in due to the coronavirus
pandemic, which is still causing global fears.
“In the past few weeks following the postponement of our annual event and the Fan Festival, we have been brainstorming and exploring possible ways of making the event happen if the situation persists. Given the current
lockdown and the fact we are dealing with a fluid situation with no certain end in sight, the team has had to consider one of the options we brainstormed about to ensure that deserving winners for 3Music Awards 2020 are announced as well as wrap our timelines for 2019/2020 and begin preparing for next year,” said Sadiq Abdulai Abu, CEO, 3Media Networks.
Per the new arrangement put in place, production of the ceremony will involve a handful of crew members and three musical acts who will take the stage as performers, while others will perform virtually. It will air live on Joy Prime as well as on all social media handles of both 3Music and Joy Prime from an undisclosed location.
Prior to the lockdown directive from the president of Ghana, organizers of the award scheme were only able to push through with the 3Music Awards Women Brunch event, which happened on March 9 and a nominee’s announcement night. Other side ceremonies that were programmed to take place before the main event were put on hold to a later date including the 3Music Awards Fan Fest, originally scheduled for March 14, 2020 at the Accra Polo Club.
In a bid to help curb the COVID-19 pandemic, Sadiq has pointed out that proceeds from the final week of voting will be donated to Ghana’s efforts at fighting the global enemy causing much harm.
Amongst nominated artistes are Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, Shatta Wale, Wendy Shay, Medikal, Diana Hamilton, Efya and many others. ‘Prime Morning’ show host Jay Foley will take over the mic for the ceremony.
