TV ratings for the 92nd Academy Awards hit a low million number of viewers from across the world in an averaged figure of 23.6 million, which is a huge step back with the numbers compared to last year’s ceremony which recorded 29.6 million viewers.
The previous Oscar recorded low rating was in 2018, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel tallying a total figure of 26.5 million. Despite the Academy Awards inability to add more strokes to their viewership numbers, it recorded the highest TV rating in the 2020 award season, making it the most-watched entertainment special for the year. The early January ceremony, Golden Globes amassed 18.3 million, while the biggest night in music, Grammy Awards closed with 18.7 million total viewers.
From 2010 to 2020 in Oscars TV rating records, Ellen DeGeneres 2014 hosting duties holds the highest number with a calculated figure of 43.7 million. Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin follows with 41.3 million in the year 2010.
The 92nd Academy Awards ended with a history making story for Bong Joon-ho’s ‘Parasite’, which earned the best picture title. It was aired live on ABC channel.
