The Oscars of fashion, MET Gala is set in motion for 2020.
Curated under the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the 2020 MET Ball will go by the theme ‘About Time: Fashion and Duration’. The theme for the exhibition was sourced from the 1992 Sally potter film ‘Orlando’ which was based on Virginia Woolf’s novel of the same name.
Andrew Bolton, curator of the Costume Institute disclosed about the 2020 theme origination, “There’s a wonderful scene in which Tilda Swinton enters the maze in an 18th century woman’s robe a la Française, and as she re-emerges in 1850s England. That’s where the original idea came from. It’s a reimagination of fashion history that’s fragmented, discontinuous, and heterogeneous.”
For the night, fashion patrons will be treated in an hour raised cocktail, while celebrity guests walk the red carpet alongside exploring the new exhibition, which will be made of 160 women’s garments divided into two sections. The first section will be a timeline of completely black looks, followed by the second section which will fixate mainly on white outfits with added pops of color.
Hollywood A-listers, Meryl Streep, Lin-Manuel Miranda and Emma Stone have been announced as co-chairs for the 2020 Ball alongside Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour and French fashion designer Nicolas Ghesquiere. The event will take place on May 4, 2020.
